Fabulous! Festival + still working away

‘Til then, I’ll leave you with some great reading from this week’s Fabulous! Festival of fashion, beauty & style at Thrifty Spend.

Why so quiet?

car.gifI’ve been away for the last few days, but I now have some exciting news to share…

For the first time in my life, I have a driver’s license!

Well, a learner driver’s permit anyway… so I’ve now passed a rite of passage most 16 year olds manage.

I’ve also been hard at work on some new developments around here, which you’ll see very soon.

Apologies for being so quiet and I promise I’ll be back soon.

Fabulous! Festival finds this week

[ fabulous festival logo ]This week’s Fabulous! Festival of fashion, beauty and style at iCiNG is chock full of fantastic reading. My favourites include:

How I learnt what not to wear
Icy from Individual Chic recounts how she found a look that works for her.

(I’ve met Icy and she’s a very stylish woman, so you should listen to what she says!)

A home foot-spa treatment
Give your feet some love at Thriftyspend!

Using Accessories to Anchor Attention Around the Face
A great fashion tip: the purpose of jewelry is to highlight your most expressive features: your face and your hands. Here Rebecca shares how you can draw attention to your face with a well-placed accessory.

The Jessicas Want Respect!
Fresh from the fashion mags: Jessicas Biel and Alba are serious actresses! Is it inconsistent that these articles are accompanied by pics of them in skimpy clothing on their hands and knees? You be the judge.

The self-loathing sin bank: stop hating your shape
If you don’t like your body, don’t complain about it in front of your kids! Children learn self-loathing from their parents. Is that really something you want to teach them?

A makeover shopping trip (part two)

[ Makeover image: outfit after ]On Saturday, I took a friend who I’ll call A. shopping to pick out an outfit she could wear to a wedding this week, at the behest of her boyfriend D.

Part one of the makeover story is here, and today I get on to the good bit: the shopping!

We spent most of a day going through A.’s wardrobe, talking about what she likes and dislikes and most importantly, buying pretty clothes.

PS: Part two of yesterday’s makeover story is postponed ’til tomorrow. Sorry about that!

Makeover, please! (part one)

[ Makeover image: outfit before ]On Friday, a friend called asking me for some fashion help… for his girlfriend!

I’ll call him D. and her A., since I haven’t asked permission to spread their story all over the web.

D. told me that he and A. are going to a wedding this week and he was worried about what she was going to wear.

They’re a sartorially mismatched couple, so I knew immediately why he was worried.

Fabulous! Festival a featured carnival

[ fabulous festival logo ]After only a month in business, our lil’ blog carnival is attracting attention!

This morning, one of the BlogCarnival.com administrators wrote to say:

Just wanted to let you know that we’ve chosen the fabulous! festival to be our featured carnival on Saturday, June 9th. You’ll see it splashed on our homepage all day.

I owe a big thank you to the fabulous bloggers who volunteered to host first: Anna at Individual Chic and Rebecca at The Space Between My Peers. Your brilliant editions really contributed to the Festival’s success so far.

I’m also looking forward to seeing what our upcoming hosts have in store for us: Gala at iCiNG, Karina at Karina XOXO, Nadine at Thriftyspend and Gauri at That Dress is Divine!

PS: Bloggers who are interested in hosting an upcoming edition, email me.
